BHBANESWAR: History once again repeated itself as Netherlands defeated India 1-2 in the quarter-finals and were knocked out of the Men’s Hockey World Cup. Now India will fight for a fith-place play-off.
Indians took the lead through Akashdeep Singh in the 12th minute but the Dutch managed to equalise through Thierry Brinkman with the last play of the first quarter. The wait for India for a world title goes on.
India were brave in defence as they managed to stop the Dutch.
The second quarter was more subdued compared to the first. Both teams had just three circle entries each and there were only two shots on goals.
The Netherlands will take on Australia on Saturday for a spot in the final.
