Golfer Jyoti Randhawa arrested for poaching charges in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW: Ace golfer Jyoti Randhawa was on Wednesday arrested on charges of poaching in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich, a senior forest officer said. The golfer and another person, identified as Mahesh Virajdar, were arrested by the forest official in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve protected area.

A .22 rifle was seized from Randhawa, whose full name is Jyotinder Singh Randhawa, field officer Ramesh Pandey said. The golfer and another person, identified as Mahesh Virajdar, were arrested by the forest official in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve protected area, near Motipur range of Katarniaghat, field officer Ramesh Pandey said. Interrogation and further legal action against Randhawa are being initiated by the Katarniaghat DFO, he said.

Police are yet to issue details of the arrest. Randhawa was ranked in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking several times between 2004 and 2009.
